Australia Open 1968


The 1968 Australia Open Competition was a tennis tournament that took place in the outdoor Kooyong Ground in Victoria, Australia from 19 to 29 Jan. It was the 56th edition of the Australia Competition (now known as Australia Open), the Fifteenth held in Victoria, and the first Huge Throw tournament of the season. 
It was also the last Huge Throw tournament to be restricted to beginners. The single men and women titles were won by Australia Bill Bowrey and American Carrie Jean Master. In Gents Singles activities Roy Emerson was the protecting champ but did not contend that season Bill Bowrey won in the ultimate 7–5, 2–6, 9–7 and 6–4 against Juan Gisbert, Sr.  In the Wonen's SinglesNancy Richey was the protecting champ but did not contend that season Carrie Jean Master won in the ultimate 6–1, 6–2 against Maggie Judge. 
In 1968 Competition Gents Enhances activities Penis Crealy / Allan Rock beaten Terry Addison / Ray Keldie 10–8, 6–4, 6–3. It was Crealy's 1st Huge Throw headline. It was Diamond's 1st Huge Throw headline. In the 1968 Australia Competition Females doubles activities Nancy Krantzcke / Kerry Melville beat Judy Tegart / Lesley Turner 6–4, 3–6, 6–2. It was Krantzcke's only Huge Throw headline. It was Melville's 1st Huge Throw headline. 
In the Australia 1968 Mixed events Dick Crealy / Billie Jean King defeated Allan Stone / Margaret Court by Walkover. It was Crealy's 2nd Huge Throw headline.
